The ideal extractor for laboratory environments
The unique joint design of the ME results in a very low pressure drop, which produces many valuable benefits:
- Energy-saving
- Lower noise levels
- Less risk of disruptive ventilation noise
- Low pressure drop without having to use a larger dimension system
- Easy to combine with other extractors in the same ventilation system
The standard version is suitable for extracting most types of airborne pollutants in:
- Laboratories
- Schools, universities
- Hospitals
- The pharmaceutical industry
- Hairdressing salons
- The electronics industry
Many installation possibilities :
– Table / Ceiling or wall mount
– Friction joints with 360 ° rotating ball bearings.
– Multitudes of accessories in 3 diameters (50, 75, 100 mm)
– Possibility of choosing its length
– Choice of material (Standard, Polypropylene, ESD, Atex)
– Arms that can be connected to our HI4P1S-HEPA, HI4P4S / HI4P6S hoods, to an existing suction system or motor on roof
– Range adapted to fixed installations
FAQ – Laboratory Extraction Arms (ME50 / ME75 / ME100)
What is a laboratory extraction arm used for?
A laboratory extraction arm is used to capture fumes, vapours, dust or odours directly at source before they reach the operator.
It is ideal for small workstations in labs, electronics, dental, ink, adhesives or solvent handling.
Which diameters are available?
FTM Technologies offers several arm sizes to match the airflow and workstation size:
- ME50 → Ø 50 mm: light fumes, electronics, small parts.
- ME75 → Ø 75 mm: most lab applications.
- ME100 → Ø 100 mm: higher flow, heavier fumes or larger capture hoods.
All versions keep the same articulated design for easy positioning.
What mounting options are available?
The arms can be installed in several ways depending on the bench layout:
- Table / bench support (BF) – fixed directly to the worktop.
- Wall bracket – to keep the bench surface clear.
- Ceiling / overhead mounting – for central or shared work areas.
This makes it possible to equip existing laboratories without modifying furniture.
What hoods and nozzles can I use?
Several capture heads are available to adapt to the process:
- Transparent dome – for general capture and good visibility.
- Flat / rectangular hood – for wider sources.
- Suction nozzle – for very localised capture, soldering, glues.
- Mini arms (Minitex) – for very small parts or confined spaces.
Hoods can be swapped on the same arm.
What materials are available?
Depending on the environment, FTM arms can be supplied in:
- Aluminium / painted version for standard lab use.
- Antistatic / ESD version for electronics and ATEX-like zones.
- Plastic / corrosion resistant version (on request) for humid or chemical atmospheres.
What airflow do these arms require?
Airflow depends on the arm diameter and the hood used.
As a guideline:
- Ø 50 mm → typically 80–120 m³/h
- Ø 75 mm → typically 120–200 m³/h
- Ø 100 mm → typically 180–300 m³/h
The final selection must be made according to the selected fan and the total number of arms on the line.
Can I connect the arm to an existing extraction system?
Yes. The arms can be connected to an existing central extraction line or to an FTM centrifugal fan, using the appropriate diameter and flexible duct.
A throttling damper can be added to adjust each arm individually.
How should the arm be positioned for best efficiency?
The capture head should be placed as close as possible to the source (5–20 cm), and slightly behind or above the pollutant flow.
The articulated design allows quick repositioning without tools.
Is maintenance difficult?
No. An occasional wipe of the tubes and joints is enough.
On systems fitted with filters, follow the filter replacement schedule indicated in the cabinet or fan documentation.
What are the advantages of FTM laboratory arms?
- Very flexible, easy to position even on crowded benches.
- Several diameters (50 / 75 / 100 mm) and several hoods.
- Table, wall or ceiling mounting.
- Can be connected to FTM extraction fans.
- Suitable for fumes, light dust, solvents and odours.
