The Company – Once upon a time SEM

Founded in 1918 under the trademark SEM (named after its two creators, Sonic and Marchand), and specialized in the manufacture of small electrical equipment (irons, small electric heaters and soldering irons), located at 103/109 rue Olivier de Serres in Paris, the firm finds its main growth in the development and intensive manufacture of the electric soldering iron.

The company, which has become the MARCHAND PERNOT establishments, is acquiring a reputation for quality, safety, reliability and the SEM brand, is developing rapidly, ensuring the creation of a strong customer base of Industries and Administrations.

The company became, from the last war and until the 1970s, the leading French manufacturer of electric soldering irons.

Thanks to its reputation in the professional world, the company decides to target the Electronic Industries market as a priority by meeting their needs.

A range of stations with electronic temperature control is created.

The success of these new thermo-regulated irons and the desire to evolve with the demand of the industry, lead the company to develop its range in the desoldering of components and the repair of printed circuits (traditional and CMS).

A strong French clientele confirms, through its loyalty to the SEM brand, the reputation of quality of the equipment and services.

In addition to its activity focused on electronics, the Company is currently well positioned in the so-called “niche” markets with special products dedicated to electrical engineering and the Arts and restauration market.

FTM Technologies

FTM Technologies, a French manufacturer and distributor, founded by Sylvain Barbieri, was created by a team of high-level technicians with a long experience in the equipment of the electronics workshops and, more generally, in the industry.

Its leading products such as thermal strippers, tinning devices and cambering machines have been equipping since the 1980s with the largest French companies in the field of electronics.

Our materials and tools are also used by cutting-edge sectors such as Nuclear Industry, Aeronautics, Military Industry or Medical Instrumentation

The development of a range of products dedicated to air filtration has strengthened its positioning and opened up new markets in many activities and industries.

June 2009, the integration of SEM by FTM Technologies

FTM-TECHNOLOGIES and SEM MARCHAND PERNOT combine for a complete synergy in order to better meet the needs of their customers (products and services).

SEM leaves the street Olivier de Serres and joins the workshops of FTM Technologies in Nanterre where the adventure continues. FTM Technologies continues to manufacture SEM irons and is the latest French manufacturer to produce electric soldering irons entirely in its workshops.

December 2014, a recovery and new prospects

At the end of 2014, on the occasion of the retirement of Sylvain Barbieri, the company FTM Technologies was taken over by Vincent Robeyns, individual buyer.

The latter is supported by the Entreprendre 92 network and Airbus Regional Development, and is now responsible for the development of the company both in France and internationally (20% of turnover).

Today, FTM Technologies strives to provide its customers with a firm commitment to quality and service.

With a production capacity and a network of suppliers to handle all kinds of specific and customized requests, FTM Technologies is also strong to offer in addition to its own range a variety of products and brands selected for their Quality and price.
